THE PLAYERS CUP
2023
AUGUST 12TH
15TH ANNUAL

The Player’s Cup
Official Rules
Basic Ground Rules: The 11th Annual Player’s Cup, a Ryder Cup style tournament, pits two teams of 18 in a total of 27 matches.
-
Each match is worth one Player’s Cup point; 14 Player’s Cup points are needed by a team to win the Cup.
-
Each hole is worth one match point and as each match is 9 holes, the first team to get to 5 match points wins and is awarded one Player’s Cup point for their team.
-
If a match ends all square at 4 ½ points each, both teams are awarded ½ Player’s Cup point. Remember, there are no carry-overs; it is simply a tie ½ point to each team.
-
If the Player’s Cup ends in a 13.5-all tie, the tie-breaker will be the total team stroke score of all matches combined. This way, if a match is ended early because a team gets to 5 match points, there is still something to play for, so don’t give up!
1st 9 Holes: Two-Man Shamble (Modified Best Ball)
With a two-man shamble, each team member tees off on each hole and takes the better of the two tee shots. From the tee shot, each player then plays their own ball for the remainder of the hole. The low score - or "best ball" - of the two players serves as the team score.
2nd 9 Holes: Two-Man Alternate Shot
With a two-man alternate shot, each player on the team tees off on every hole. The best tee shot is chosen and from that spot players must alternate shots, or turns. The person’s drive that was not used goes first from that spot. The total stroke score is the team’s score for that hole.
3rd 9 Holes: Two-Man Scramble
With a two-man scramble, each team member tees off on each hole. The best of the tee shots is selected and both players play their second shots from that spot. The better of the second shots is determined, and then both play their third shots from that spot, and so on until the ball is holed.
Miscellaneous Rules
-
First 9 is from Blue Tees, the last 18 holes is from White Tees
-
Winter Rules are in effect everywhere but hazards and greens. You may improve your lie within inches of your original lie, not closer to the hole
-
Scores will be kept by both teams during each match, write hole by hole on scoreboard!
-
All putts must be finished out, unless the opposing team says they are “good”
Remember to have fun and may the best team win!
